In the summer he worked for me, I am sure I learned more from getting to know him than I can say. The whole summer, he was on time, on task, and a pleasure to have on our farm. He will do much good in this world, as evidenced by his involvement with this important initiative. As if you could not tell, I am a huge believer in Ryan Payne.

About CMN Ambassador - Ryan

My name is Ryan. I was born in China and spent the first three years of my life in an orphanage. After being adopted, that adoption was later disrupted, and when I was five, I was adopted by the family I have today. They have provided endless support throughout my life.

Growing up with a nevus was not always easy. I regularly saw doctors, including a neurologist, ophthalmologist, and dermatologist, and I often experienced staring and rude comments from people who did not understand my condition. At school, kids and coaches gave me the nickname Cookie because of my nevus. I felt it was easier to accept the nickname and be included than to draw more attention to my skin condition.

As I have gotten older, I have continued to experience unwanted comments from strangers. Despite these challenges, I have learned to navigate them with resilience and confidence. Today, at 22, I am in college, work, travel, and live my life without boundaries. I have learned that my nevus is part of who I am and part of what makes me unique.

Attending a Nevus Outreach conference was truly eye-opening. For the first time, I was surrounded by people who shared similar experiences and understood what I was going through without needing an explanation. I finally felt like I truly belonged and formed friendships that will last a lifetime.

Raising awareness is important to me because no one should ever feel ashamed, embarrassed, or alone because of something that makes them different. I want to help others understand nevus, promote acceptance, and show that our differences can be a source of strength rather than something we need to hide.

Awareness begins with understanding, support, and acceptance. Those living with nevus are not alone.
