About CMN Ambassador - Mandy

My name is Mandy Montgomery, and I am a 33-year-old advocate living with Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (GCMN).

My skin tells a story of resilience, shaped by 66 surgeries, 53 of which I underwent before I turned 10. For more than half of my life, I hid my skin completely and struggled with a deeply negative inner monologue that continued well into my mid-twenties.

Everything changed in 2018 when I attended my first Nevus Outreach conference. Finding this community completely transformed my life. It changed the way I saw myself, taught me how to advocate for my own health, and gave me the medical literacy I needed to navigate my treatment options with confidence.

Today, I am proud of my skin and passionate about helping others find the same empowerment and access to proper care. Awareness is important to me because correct medical information should not be a luxury. Everyone deserves to feel seen, understood, and valued.

Awareness can be a vital lifeline, giving people the knowledge, community, and confidence they need to advocate for themselves.

I have transformed a lifetime of complex medical experiences into a powerful roadmap for health literacy, self-love, and collective empowerment. The moment I found Nevus Outreach, I stopped hiding my skin and started rewriting my story.

My hope is that by sharing my story, I can help others realize that their differences do not diminish their worth—and that they have the power to become fierce advocates for their own lives.
