About CMN Ambassador - Emily

Throughout my childhood, hospitals, surgeries, and appointments became a familiar part of life. To date, I have undergone 30 surgeries, but I never allowed my condition to define what I could do. 

Growing up with a visible difference, I learned that some of the greatest challenges were internal. My teenage years were shaped by comparison, insecurity, and an awareness of how others perceived me. Stares, questions, and assumptions often made me wonder if I would ever truly feel at peace in my own skin. 

My family’s support made all the difference. I was raised to never see myself as less worthy or believe I needed to hide any part of who I was. As I grew older, I began to understand that my condition was not something I needed to overcome. It had shaped my empathy, compassion, and understanding of others. 

My family found Nevus Outreach while searching for answers in 2000. To now help lead and support that same community in Australia feels incredibly meaningful. My family’s source of hope then has become part of my purpose now. 

Raising CMN awareness is important to me because I want the next generation to have what I did not. I want them to see people who look like them, hear from families who have walked the same path, and have a community where they feel understood, loved, and supported. 

The more we understand and normalize visible differences, the less power they have to make someone question their worth. My skin is a part of me, but it does not define my worth, confidence, or identity. 

To anyone living with CMN or any visible difference: your story matters, your voice matters, and you are worthy exactly as you are.
